Band keratopathy after ocular exposure to visible laser radiation.

چکیده
Band keratopathy is a degenerative condi tion of the superficial cornea characterized by the deposition of calcium salts in its ex posed interpalpebral portion. The pathogenesis of the lesion is not clear, although multi ple etiologic factors have been determined. The association of band keratopathy with abnormalities of calcium, phosphorus, and vitamin D metabolism, and with chronic intraocular inflammation is well known, but there is no explanation for either the inter palpebral location of the lesion or for its su perficial location. We devised a simple, experimental method for producing band keratopathy in normal rabbits.

PURPOSE To report a case of visually significant band keratopathy associated with ocular inflammation and systemic hypercalcemia which markedly decreased in severity after treatment of these underlying factors. METHODS Retrospective case report. RESULTS A 53-year-old Asian female with granulomatous panuveitis in the left eye presented with diffuse band keratopathy through the central cornea...
متن کاملNew Treatment for Band Keratopathy: Superficial Lamellar Keratectomy, EDTA Chelation and Amniotic Membrane Transplantation
We report two cases of band keratopathy who were treated with thick amniotic membrane that contained a basement membrane structure as a graft, after ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid chelation with trephination and blunt superficial lamellar keratectomy in the anterior stroma. In each case, basement membrane was destroyed and calcium plaque invaded into anterior stroma beneath Bowman's membrane. ...

BACKGROUND Calcified band keratopathy is a chronic degenerative disease characterized by the deposition of gray to white opacity in superficial layers of the cornea that typically develops over months or years. It is associated with a variety of conditions, including chronic uveitis. PURPOSE The objective of this study is to assess visual acuity and corneal changes in patients with band kerat...
متن کاملHistopathological study of delayed Mustard Gas Keratopathy
Aims: Ocular injury by mustard gas (HD) leads to severe eye damage. Long term characterization of mustard gas ocular toxicity has not been described in detail yet. Present study was performed in order to explore chronic histological and immunopathologic effects of HD ocular exposure and try to find etiology for these effects. Methods: This descriptive case study was performed on corneal and...

Pumose. To study ocular inflammation and comeal damage after short-term exposure to ultraviolet radiation (UVR). Method. Altogether, 200 Sprague-Dawley rats received during 15 mtn. unilaterally in viva 5 or 20 kJ/m* UVR (L= 300 nm, XO,~ = 10 nm). Following the UVR exposure, no other treatment was given. At 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 28, 56, 112 and 224 days after exposure ocular inilammation, comeal damage...
